This post was created to help members create thier characters. I have included a description of each choice you must make for your character.
Age
For wolves, age is slightly different than in humans. Wolves don't live as long, so they mature much quicker. Here's a quick chart to show what happens at each stage of a wolves life;
Newborn- 3-4 weeks - at the beggining of this stage, the wolf is deaf and blind. Characters aren't exactly RPable at this stage as pups stay in the den with mother
Pup- 4-6 months - at this stage, the pup stays close to home. Playing with packmates is an important part of it's life at this stage. It'll also watch older pack members to learn what it means to truly be "wolf." Interaction is vital. They may accompany older wolves on hunts, but they normally observe instead of taking part in taking an animal down
Juvenile- up to 2 years - the wolves will be able to take down small prey animals. Their pack status starts to develope and they may decide to leave the pack. The reson may vary.
YoungAdult- 2 years - they will begin to reach sexual maturity and may form a pack of their own, unless they've decided to stay with their family
Adult- 3+ years - the wolf becomes fully mature at this age. Males may become more dominant. The adult wolf is intelligent, strategic, and resourceful
Death- 6-7 years - wolves in the wild will only live to about this age. Wolves of all ages can be killed by diesease, starvation, other wolves, predators, humans, cars, and injury
Species
Wolves in Yellowstone, which is where the RP takes place, are a subspecies of grey wolf called mackenzie valley wolf, though I've decided to make it a bit more flexible by including other species in North America. If you'd rather not pick a subspecies, you may put grey or red wolf.
Mackenzie Valley Wolf The largest subspecies of grey wolf, they normally weigh in at up to 150 lbs.
Eastern Grey Wolf It is debated weather this wolf is a grey wolf, red wolf, or it's own species.
Great Plains Wolf This is the most common subspecies in North America
Mexican Grey Wolf This is one of the most endangered wolves in the world.
Red Wolf This species is seperate from grey wolves and is thought to be the result of a grey wolf x coyote hybrid.
Rank
The rank a wolf plays in a pack has a lot to do with it's personality. For example, a timid wolf might be an omega, while a tough or confident wolf might be better suited as an alpha or beta. Here are the typical ranks in a pack-
Alpha- The alphas are a mated pair who keep the pack organised. The other pack members are generally family and respected friends
Beta- Dispite common belief, these wolves do not become the new alphas. They can be thought of as the alphas right hand man; or woman.
Subordinate- Any wolf who doesn't exactly fit into the other categories.
Omega- These wolves aren't necessarily the weakest- however they normally eat last when prey is caught and they are sometimes picked on.
Pups- In a pack, every wolf in the pack has a role in raising puppies. They also all understand the responsibility of protecting the puppies from danger.
Hunter- I wanted to throw this one in here to let the members know that this is not a group. Each wolf in the pack will hunt with the exception of wolves under a year old and pregnant and nursing mothers.
Appearance
Did you know that wolves will never be one solid color? Though it may look like that Arctic wolf is pure white, it may have grey or yellowy tinged fun on it's back, legs, tail or face. All wolves are unique, even if they're the same species. For instance, a black looking wolf and a white looking wolf may have a litter of puppies with one white, one black, one grey, then an odd red tinged pup. With wolf colors and markings, the possibilities are near endless. Just make sure the only colors being used are shades of black, grey, white/yellowy or red. Also, a wolf who, in the first year of her life, is black with a white chest, can grow up to be white with grey tinges on her back and muzzle. So if you get bored of your wolf's character design, you can slightly alter it over time. But please don't make random, drastic changes. You would see a red tinged wolf one day and the next day it's black, would you?
Now, with eyes, it's a bit different. First I'd like to say that you can't have blue or bi-eyed wolves. Only pups have blue eyes, but they grow out of this. As adults, wolves will have yellow, green, brown, or amber eyes of various shades. A blind wolf can have silvery eyes.
